Republicans are celebrating the passage of Trumpcare 2.0, one of the cruelest, most tone deaf pieces of legislation ever voted on in the House of Representatives. Now, new reporting shows that while tens of millions of people all over the country would potentially be devastated by the bill, the states hardest hit would be Republican strongholds.
CNN reports that of all fifty states, the states with the highest percentages of residents with pre-existing conditions are as follows:
West Virginia: 36%
As previously reported by Restore Progress, the bill passed by House Republicans would allow insurance companies to demand astronomical premiums from sick people or people with pre-existing conditions. This means that the people of Red State America – aka Trumpland – may soon find affordable health care to be a thing of the past. While there is an easy impulse to tell such voters “I told you so” and “you reap what you sow”, such a response trivializes the harms that real human beings could suffer under this bill.
Taking health care away from sick people: truly, Making America Great Again.
