In his first 100 days in office, Donald Trump has set about to dismantle as many of Barack Obama’s initiatives as possible. From environmental protections, to trade, to affordable health care, to protections for Dreamers, to equality for the LGBTQ community, Trump has made every effort to erase the progress achieved by the Obama administration (thankfully, with limited success thus far).
Now, it appears as though the Trump administration has set its eyes on the signature programs of former first lady Michelle Obama. As reported by NPR: “Former first lady Michelle Obama might find some of the latest actions by the Trump administration pretty difficult to stomach.”
“On Monday newly minted Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue announced a rollback of school lunch standards championed by the former first lady, declaring at a Virginia school that the administration would ‘Make School Meals Great Again.'”
“Meanwhile, CNN reported that the Trump White House will not continue the Let Girls Learn program in its current form. The initiative aims to provide educational opportunities for young women in developing countries.”
All this, while Trump continues to demand billions of dollars of additional defense spending, and the most extreme tax cuts for the richest 1% (and .01%) in a generation. Deplorable.
