China’s President Xi Jinping visited Mar-a-Lago this weekend in his much-anticipated first official meeting with Pres. Trump. Despite Trump’s claim that the two countries made “tremendous progress,” it did not go well for America’s 45th president.
As dessert was being served, Trump informed the Chinese president that the United States was in the process of a missile strike on Syria.
As reported by the New York Times, once President Xi Jinping was safely out of the US, Chinese state-run media wasted no time in calling out Trump’s careless attacks: The strike [was] the act of a weakened politician who needed to flex his muscles. They went on to say: Mr. Trump had ordered the strike to distance himself from Syria’s backers in Moscow, to overcome accusations that he was “pro-Russia.”
Ouch. Trump is now learning the hard way that what goes around comes around on the stage of global politics. Trump spent much of his campaign recklessly attacking China in topics ranging from trade to North Korea – attacks the Chinese President seems to not have forgotten.
