Billionaires Charles and David Koch spent $750 million during the 2016 election cycle to advance the agenda of the far right. This is a staggering sum, even for the Koch brothers. What exactly did this enormous political spend buy for the Koch brothers? Well, according to recent reporting by The Intercept, it bought them unprecedented influence in the White House, among other benefits.
From The Intercept: “Newly disclosed ethics forms reveal that a significant number of senior Trump staffers were previously employed by the sprawling network of hard-right and libertarian advocacy groups financed and controlled by Charles and David Koch, the conservative duo hyper-focused on entrenching Republican power, eliminating taxes, and slashing environmental and labor regulations.”
“Some of the relationships were well-known…But the ethics forms, made available to the public on Friday evening, reveal a number of previously undisclosed financial ties between the Koch network and Trump’s inner circle of political aides.”
Among those identified by The Intercept include White House counsel Donald McGahn, White House counsel, White House staffer Ann Donaldson, and microwave conspiracy theorist Kellyanne Conway, who has deep ties to a number of Koch funded efforts. Should Trump’s agenda ever conflict with the desires of the Koch brothers, it will be interesting to see where the allegiances of these Koch funded White House staffers lie.
