Yesterday, Restore Progress reported on the horrific chemical weapons attack perpetrated by Syrian president Bashar al Assad against his own citizens. We noted that the attack occurred days after the Trump administration announced that it would no longer prioritize resisting Assad’s brutal regime, a move widely viewed as a concession to Trump’s friend Vladimir Putin.
Republican Senator John McCain did not hold back in assigning some blame for the attack to Trump’s capitulation to Russia. As reported by CNN:
“(Syrian President) Bashar Assad and his friends, the Russians, take note of what Americans say. I’m sure they took note of what our Secretary of State (Rex Tillerson) said just the other day that the Syrian people would be determining their own future themselves — one of the more incredible statements I’ve ever heard.”
“I’m sure they are encouraged to know the United States is withdrawing and seeking a new arrangement with the Russians. It is another disgraceful chapter in American history and it was predictable.”
