Trump has sent weeks trying to justify his lie that former president Barack Obama wiretapped Trump Tower during the 2016 presidential campaign. To our knowledge, no serious person has bought in to his ever shifting wire-tapping conspiracy and, moreover, the FBI, senior Republicans, and the intelligence community more broadly have all stated that there is no evidence to support his claims.
So, it is not surprising that Trump is heaping praise on any source that is willing to spread his propaganda. He did just that on Monday, praising the “reporting” of journalism powerhouse “Fox and Friends.”
Tweeted Donald: “Such amazing reporting on unmasking and the crooked scheme against us by @foxandfriends. Spied on before nomination. The real story.”
His tweet followed programming by the Fox News puff program citing murky sources who supposedly said that some communications of members of the Trump team had been collected by intelligence agencies. Of course, as has been widely chronicled, any such collection would likely be incidental to government surveillance of the communications of known Russian spies.
So congratulations, Fox and Friends. Your story would likely prove that members of the Trump team were communicating with Russian spies during the 2016 campaign.
