Ted Cruz has had a difficult year full of losing. First, he lost the Republican primary contest to Donald Trump. Then, he lost his dignity when he decided to embrace and support Trump, a man who personally insulted Cruz’s wife and claimed that Cruz’s father was involved in the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
Thankfully, Cruz is up for reelection (or, more hopefully, defeat) in 2018. There appear to be a number of strong Democratic challengers considering a run at Cruz’s seat. Now, the Houston Chronicle is reporting on one such challenger – U.S. representative Beto O’Rourke.
From the Chronicle: “Rep. Beto O’Rourke, a Democrat and ex-punk rocker who pulled a stunning upset to win his House seat six years ago, plans to declare his candidacy on Friday for the Senate seat held by Ted Cruz, according to Democratic sources in Texas.”
“O’Rourke’s fledgling campaign has scheduled an announcement on Friday in El Paso, his hometown. He has traveled heavily in Texas over the last three months making contacts, barely concealing his political plans. …O’Rourke [is] a businessman in the technology industry and a musician who played in three punk rock bands during and after his college years at Columbia University.”
Congressman O’Rourke would be a welcome change for Texas and the U,S, Senate.
