As reported here and elsewhere, Donald Trump has been an historically unpopular president since his earliest days in office. According to a new Quinnipiac poll, Trump’s popularity continues to plummet, as more and more Americans are finding the president dishonest, lacking empathy, out of touch, and lacking leadership skills. President Trump now has a negative 38% to 55% job approval rating, his worst net score since he took office.
Other key results from the Quinnipiac poll are as follows:
- 55% to 40% of voters say he is not honest
- 55% to 42% of voters say he does not have good leadership skills
- 53% to 44% of voters say he does not care about average Americans
- 63% to 33% of voters say he is not level-headed
- 60% to 37% of voters say he does not share their values
To put it mildly, these numbers are not good news for the Trump administration. As Quinnipiac pollster Tim Malloy phrased it: “President Donald Trump’s popularity is sinking like a rock. He gets slammed on honesty, empathy, level headedness and the ability to unite. And two of his strong points, leadership and intelligence, are sinking to new lows. This is a terrible survey one month in.”
Donald Trump will surely dismiss the poll as yet another conspiracy of the fake news-industrial complex. But numbers are numbers, and facts are facts. If Trump doesn’t turn around his numbers soon, Republican leaders may soon enter self-preservation mode and abandon Trump’s sinking ship.
