It seems the only thing Donald Trump loves more than luxury living is luxury living on the American taxpayers’ dime. As reported here and elsewhere, every time Donald Trump jets down to his Mar-a-Lago resort, he foots the American taxpayer with a $3 million bill. The decision of Donald and Melania Trump to split their households between Washington, D.C. and Manhattan – a distance of a mere 200 miles – costs taxpayers up to $500,000 every single day. And as previously reported by Restore Progress, taxpayers are also on the hook for security costs related to his adult children’s vacations – for example, a recent trip by Eric Trump, noted international big game hunter, costed taxpayers about $100,000.
Now, the Washington Post has run the numbers, and is estimating that we the people will likely spend hundreds of millions of dollars over the next four years to give Trump his gold-plated lifestyle. Reports the Post: “[b]arely a month into the Trump presidency, the unusually elaborate lifestyle of America’s new first family is straining the Secret Service and security officials, stirring financial and logistical concerns in several local communities, and costing far beyond what has been typical for past presidents — a price tag that, based on past assessments of presidential travel and security costs, could balloon into the hundreds of millions of dollars over the course of a four-year term.”
To all the Trump voters out there who believed Trump when he said he would fight for working class Americans, and would bring accountability back to Washington, take a good look at how this man is spending your money. The blinders need to come off, and quickly.
