As reported by The Atlantic and others, yesterday Trump claimed that terrorism has “gotten to the point where it’s not even being reported. In many cases, the very, very dishonest press doesn’t want to report it.” Now, the White House doubled down on Trump’s demonstrably false statement, releasing a list of supposedly unreported terrorist attacks.
Among the “unreported” attacks were several atrocities that the media covered for days on end, including the San Bernardino shootings, the nightclub attack in Orlando, and the 2015 Paris Attacks. The Huffington Post performed a simple Google News search on the attacks listed and found that such a search results in more than 1.7 million posts.
Perhaps more emblematic of the current administration’s disarray was the number of spelling errors present on the list. The list misspelled the word “attacker” as “attaker” 27 times. It also spelled Denmark “Denmakr” and San Bernardino as “San Bernadino”. This means there were more spelling mistakes on the list than actual unreported terror attacks.
Somewhat surprisingly, the list does not include the infamous–and entirely fictional–Bowling Green Massacre, the fabricated attack Kellyanne Conway invented to support an earlier White House claim that the media under reports terrorist attacks.
