Throughout Barrack Obama’s presidency, Donald Trump, Republicans, Fox News and others in the right wing media sphere lambasted Obama whenever he and his family traveled for family vacations. Now, barely two weeks into his presidency, Trump is jetting down to Florida for a $3 million weekend getaway, all on the taxpayers’ dime.
As reported by Politico, “President Trump’s trip to his luxury resort in Mar-a-Lago this weekend could saddle taxpayers with a bill upwards of $3 million and is already drawing the type of scrutiny Trump and other Republicans regularly heaped upon former President Barack Obama.”
Judicial Watch, a conservative nonprofit concerned with taxpayer spending, has vowed to file a Freedom of Information Act request on Monday demanding a full accounting of Trump’s travel costs. Said Tom Fitton, the nonprofit’s president, to Politico: “I hope he reflects on the costs of doing that and sees if there’s any savings to be achieved. He should check out Camp David and see if he can make better use of that.”
For the record, Obama took a total of 230 days of “vacation” during his eight years in office. For comparison, George W. Bush took 530 days, and Ronald Reagan took about 365 days. Looks like Trump may give George W. Bush a run for his money (or, more accurately, OUR money).
