Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has been one of the very few Republicans willing to criticize Donald Trump and his most extreme policies. When asked about Trump’s executive order banning entry to the United States by persons from seven Muslim-majority countries, McCain did not hold back.
Reports the New York Times, Trump had this to say: “I think the effect in some areas will give ISIS some more propaganda.”
The Times article continues, somewhat hopefully, as follows: “Republicans on Sunday showed signs of growing restiveness over President Trump’s refugee policy, in its substance and the confusion over the way it was carried out, including one prominent senator who said it served as propaganda for the Islamic State.”
Nevertheless, so far, the overwhelming majority of Republican lawmakers have elected to stay silent, and have shown no inclination to speak out even against Trump’s worst policies.
