Women seeking to obtain their birth control will see a higher tab thanks to Senate Republicans.
While America slept, Republicans began dismantling major parts of the Affordable Care Act. Senate Democrats fought to introduce a series of amendments to protect Americans’ health insurance, but the GOP snubbed every single one of such measures.
NYMAG reports that one of the Democrats’ amendments aimed at protecting women’s birth control. Under the Affordable Care Act, insurance companies were required to provide birth control for free. This allowed 55 million women to be free of co-pays when obtaining birth control. By repealing the ACA, those same women would have to once again pay for these essential drugs. The Republicans turned a blind eye to American women and repudiated the amendment.
This rollback will have a real, expensive and direct consequences for millions of American woman and their families.
