In the weeks since his election victory, Donald has surrounded himself with career lobbyists, career politicians, and corporate insiders. In elevating such people to positions of power in his administration, Donald appears to be breaking his vow to “drain the swamp”, Trump’s colorful term for Washington, D.C. and the entrenched interests it cultivates.
Now, however, Trump is abandoning any pretense that he intends to follow through on his campaign promise. Said Trump’s close confidant Newt Gingrich, in an interview with NPR, with regards to “draining the swamp”: “I’m told he now just disclaims that. He now says it was cute, but he doesn’t want to use it anymore… Maybe he feels that as president, as the next president of the United States, that he should be marginally more dignified than talking about alligators in swamps.”
One assumes that eventually, Trump voters will expect Donald to make good on at least some of his many campaign promises. We will see how short a leash Donald is provided.
