The Washington Post reports alarming news that high level Russian sources were coordinating with Trump staff during the presidential campaign. Confirms Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, “there were contacts” with the Trump team. “Obviously, we know most of the people from his entourage,” Ryabkov said.
This behavior is highly irregular, but consistent with the bizarrely close relationship Vladmir Putin has cultivated with Donald Trump. Trump’s interests in Russia have been a source of concern for government watchdogs, as they present what many deem an unacceptable conflict of interest for the president-elect. As recounted by the Washington Post:
“[Trump] made millions of dollars by taking the Miss Universe pageant to Moscow in 2013. Wealthy Russians also have been an important source of investments in Trump’s businesses. His son Donald Trump Jr. said in 2008 that ‘Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets,” adding that “we see a lot of money pouring in from Russia.'”
