Despite losing the popular vote by well over 2 million votes, Donald Trump will be sworn in on January 20 – that is, unless, the Electoral College electors take the unprecedented step of refusing to cast their votes for the Donald. According to reporting by Politico, there is a movement afoot among the electors to do just that, with electors reaching out to the Clinton campaign to gauge their interest in such a plan.
“Advocates of the long-shot bid to turn the Electoral College against Donald Trump have been in contact with close allies of Hillary Clinton, according to multiple sources familiar with the discussions, but the Clinton camp — and Clinton herself — have declined to weigh in on the merits of the plan.”
It remains to be seen whether this movement will pick up steam. Should the Donald continue to blunder his way through the appointment process, it is likely that more and more electors will at least entertain the option of casting their votes against Trump.
